aluminium = golddddd

i never thought that learning about aluminium would have actually been interesting.. but considering how historically jammed pack this one little metal is, is crazy. never would have guessed that aluminium was actually worth and considered wayyyy more than gold.. gold!!!!!

i've been doing some research into the historical aspects of the metal - unbelievable some of the stuff that i found out about it - not too many visual stimulus to support the written info though - but pretty much i hope to deal with a few certain things within this project, including stuff like the complete appreciation of the metal in design history - it has been used so much in art and design to say so many things, the actual beauty and the preciousness of the material - highly influenced by its historical contexts - anddddd more stuff too

Hughesy loses it

Australian art critic, Robert Hughes, has gone and attacked reknown Tate Modern artist, Damien Hirst, saying his work is "tacky" and "absurd" (Daily Telegraph, Monday September 8 2008).

If you look at Hirst's work, The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living -- which Hughes stated as being "world's most over-rated marine organism" (which is just a complete load of crap for him to say) -- it's not tacky - different maybe, but considering the conceptual nature of Hirst's art, Hughes is a massive twat for calling it tacky.

Considering that Hirst is probably one of the best YBAs (Young British Artists) to merge out of Europe. To call his work absurd is slightly ironic, considering he aims to be a controversial artist.

speaking of exhibitions... just thinking of one i went to when i was in yr 12 for art.. pretty sure it was the 2006 Biennale art exhibition.. and one work that was showing was Anthony Gormley's 'Asian Field' - 180,000 little figures sitting in this open space in this warehouse.. was bloody amazing.. i honestly can't describe what it was like to see it; was one of the best installations i've ever seen.

today we took a lovely trip to the powerhouse to see a few exhibitions... mainly we looked at inspired! and also the Australian Design Awards.. and then quickly got distracted by the thought of Chinatown and all the Chinese restaurants hahah
